Dear Residents & Visitors,

The 2007 Hurricane Season is upon us. As most of us who live here know, the Florida Keys are one of the most vulnerable places in the United States for hurricane strikes.

The National Hurricane Center expects another above average year for Atlantic storms. Although it is too soon to predict when and where a hurricane may hit, we strongly urge you to be prepared.

Each resident and business owner needs to have a Hurricane Plan in the event a storm does threaten the Keys. As we have seen in recent years, hurricanes are proven killers. If a storm threatens, heed the advice of local authorities and evacuate if ordered.

The city of Marathon is pleased to sponsor this 2007 Hurricane Information Guide. In these pages you will find information from the National Hurricane Center and your local government agencies, a hurricane tracking map, and invaluable information you will need to develop your own hurricane plan. Remember, the time to prepare and have a plan is before a storm threatens.
