The Forgotten Outpost

Perched atop the gateway to the harbor is the “Forgotten Outpost” – a control center for the Boot Key drawbridge. Armed with little more than a radio, binoculars, loudspeaker, telephone, and simple control panel, the bridge tenders are the eyes and ears of the harbor and keep a close eye on passing boats and Boot Key traffic. Please hail the friendly drawbridge staff on VHF ch9 from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., or call (305) 481-0568 after hours.
